ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT TURQUOISE 2

The soft turquoise is stabilized by pouring epoxy resin or other substance in the pores of the turquoise. The pores get filled and the color does not change. Natural turquoise develops a lovely patina and absorbs oil from our skin. Stabilization allows the designers to use poor quality turquoise that is not fit for jewelry. Some chemicals are used to change the color of the turquoise.

The soft porous turquoise is made into a usable product by mixing turquoise chips with resin and then molding into different shapes. This is called reconstituted turquoise. Most of the turquoise found in the market is treated in some way and one has to know what has been done to it before buying. If the jewelers use only high quality natural stones the high price of it will restrict many of us from buying turquoise.
